Doncaster will be hoping to make it three home wins in a row, and move a few places up the table, when they play host to Newbury who were promoted alongside Doncaster last season in which the Castle Park men did the double over their Berkshire opponents who have started this campaign well. Lying fifth in the table with a 4 and 4 record, they base their game plan on a fast expansive style of rugby that has meant high scoring games, including an amazing 52-41 away win at Plymouth Albion. They score a lot of points, but concede plenty too, so an entertaining afternoon is on the cards!
Newbury give a start to former Castle Park favourite Richard Briggs on one wing. Briggs, who chose to move south last summer, will be keen to make an impression. Their star forward, the Fijian and ex Quins player, Isoa Damudamu, is listed on the bench after just returning from playing Sevens in Singapore but can be expected to play some part in the match.
Doncaster welcome back flanker Simon Grainger, who will start, and inspirational skipper Rob Liley, who will be on the bench, after injury. It will be Liley’s season debut after breaking ankle bones in the summer friendly at Sale Sharks. With John Cannon on international duty with Canada in France, a new centre pairing of Brad Hunt and Joe Van Den Berg will be on show. In the pack Richard List gets the nod at prop over Simon Bunting. The Doncaster team is:
J Boden, D Van Vuuren, J Van Den Berg, B Hunt, M Wood, J Benson, C Harrison, R List, S Boden, N Tau, G Kenworthy, D Cook, R Earnshaw, S Grainger, D Montagu.
Bench: S Bunting, S Plevey, S Barretto, E Norris, R Peacey, S Meyer, R Liley.
Referee: G Copsey (RFU).
