Quins match preview
29.09.2005

Coventry action

In a match that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago, Doncaster travel to the Twickenham Stoop in good heart after last week’s win against Coventry, but realistic about their prospects against the star studded international Harlequins who have won their four matches of the campaign to date. With the supporters’ buses full and many going by road and rail, Pieter Muller’s men won’t lack vocal support in a crowd expected to approach 8000. Muller has seen tapes of the Quins matches and has identified areas where he believes they can be put under pressure. His players have been told to enjoy the big stage and to express themselves, but to continue to reduce the errors that have gifted opposition points in the early matches this season.

Muller’s only serious selection problem is in the front row. Simon Bunting is still recovering from a sprained ankle, and Steve Barretto has a knee problem. Both are seeing specialists this week. In the meantime, Muller has brought in Leicester Tigers Scottish Under 21 prop, David Young, on loan until the problems are resolved. Young will be on the bench this weekend, along with Canadian international centre, John Cannon, who joined Doncaster last weekend. Another new face on the bench is Ryan Peacey, the West Country back row who joined in the summer but who was injured pre season – he came through a 2nd team match recently and is ready for action. The starting fifteen are those who started against Coventry last weekend. International referee Steve Lander will be in the middle.

Doncaster: J Boden, D Van Vuuren, B Hunt, D Murray, L Nabaro, J Benson, C Harrison, R List, J Roddam, N Tau, E Norris, D Cook, R Earnshaw (capt), S Grainger, D Montagu.

Bench: D Young, S Boden, T Davies, O Cook, R Peacey, L Lane, J Cannon.

Referee: S. Lander (RFU).
