Where are all the players who have played for Doncaster R.F.C over the years?

Nine years ago some of the players who played in the 1979 Yorkshire Shield winning team met for lunch, also to watch Doncaster beat Northern and gain promotion in their impressive climb up the league ladder, At present this means Doncaster boasts nine promotions in sixteen years, making them the most promoted club in English Rugby.

The year after fifty former players had lunch in the extended old clubhouse. A year later the club moved into the new clubhouse, allowing us to expand the Past Players Lunch. The lunch has attracted as many as one hundred and eighty people back in 2006.

Players from as far back as the 1940’s and 50’s are regular attendees. Mike Thickett and Judge Frank Lockhart are two of our regulars from the early days. Peter Waddington, the man who has played more first team games than anyone else, is another well known face from the 60’s and 70’s.

The lunch is for anybody who has played for Doncaster at any level. In the 1970’s the club fielded up to six teams every Saturday, so there must be a lot of people out there who have played for the club. Why not join the Past Players lunch this year? Enjoy a good lunch, meet old friends, and then watch a high class game of rugby as Doncaster Knights try to make the last rung of the ladder and make it towards the Premiership.

This year’s Past Players lunch will take place on Saturday 8^th March. When Doncaster entertain Moseley (one of te former great names of English Rugby). 2.30pm Kick off. The Lunch starts at 12 noon. The cost is £13 (not including ground entry)
