Hull Ionians v Under 8’s

Doncaster Under 8’s played Hull Ionians for the first game of the year.  Possibly feeling the effects of too many selection boxes over Christmas the team found it a little hard to get going with only two first half tries , one each from Mark Gutteridge and George Tankard to show from early exertions.

Thankfully by the second half the effects of too many Christmas Puddings wore off and a further three tries were added. Tries from Oliver Cudworth , Mark Gutteridge and Thomas Peet helped the team to a more respectful scoreline. One great thing to note was all of the boys worked so hard in defence every single one of them took tags from the opposition in a real team effort.  The final score of Hull 10 Doncaster 5 was a fair representation of a good game.

Under 8’s v Scunthorpe

For the second game the boys challenged Scunthorpe for the very first time. Scunthorpe were a very well organised team but the Under 8’s put in a big performance to win the game 4-3. Again the point of note in this performance was the hard work in defence meaning not a boy in the team failed to take an opposition tag in defence which is a matter of immense pride. Try Scorers, George Tankard, Harry Marsh, Oliver Baker and Kieran Longworth.

Hull Ionians  v Under 8’s

The final game in the series against a team that had doubled Doncaster’s score in the first game. From  the outset the team looked to attack Hull Ionians knowing that they had the defence right and this showed to be the correct idea. A much improved performance from our boys saw the game finish 8-8 , with tries from Marc Gutteridge, Mitch Davis,Oliver Baker and George Tankard.
