New Signings.
Lynn Howells kept himself busy over Christmas and New Year period by taking advantage of the loan transfer market, strengthening the back row with acquisitions from Sale and Worcester.
James Jones.
Coming to us on loan from Sale, James Jones plays back row at 6 or 8. He has predominantly played at 6 throughout his career and played in that position in the Premiership against Leicester last season. James mentioned that for him that his debut for Sale for him was dominated by the spectacle and speed of the game.
Having played several seasons of A Team Rugby with Sale James has acquired plenty of experience and feels the standard of Rugby at Doncaster is good enough to help him improve his game.
Beginning his career at our soon to be opponents Richmond at the ripe old age of 11 James waited until the age of 19 to make his decision about whether a full time career was for him. After studying Economics, Geography and Media / Marketing at Loughborough James went on to Oxford to study Environmental Conservation and was picked up by Sale.
Matt Cox
Another player arriving at Doncaster to supplement the back row is Matt Cox. Playing his Rugby at 6 or 7, but preferring the number 7 shirt Matt comes to us from Worcester. Spending his early years at Woodrush in the Midlands Leagues Matt went full time at Worcester at the age of 16. Matt has spent 4 years at Worcester making regular appearances for the A team.
Where Matt stands out is in his Representative honours. As a full member of the England Sevens squad Matt is closing in on his first cap .Being on Standby for Dubai he also played for Adidas while there, with Dan Carter being the waterboy.
Matt began his fledgling International career with England Under 19’s then moved to the Under 18’s Squad. Having also played for England U20’s only a dislocated shoulder at the last world cup seemed to put his progression on hold.
As 2008 begins Matt is looking forward to making a mark with his Doncaster Knights debut and joining up with the England Sevens squad
